Asbestos Exposure at Dow’s Plaquemine Chemical Plant
Dow Chemical’s Plaquemine facility, located in Iberville Parish, began operations in the late 1950s. Today, the plant is operated by INEOS, which purchased the plant from Dow in 2001.
The Plaquemine facility is the largest chemical plant in the state of Louisiana, capable of producing about 1.5 million metric tons of ethylene and 1.11 million tons of polyethylene
Polyethylene is the main product produced at the chemical plant. The facility also produces numerous other chemical products, including ethylene, ethylene glycol, propylene, and propylene oxide.
Lawsuits filed against Dow Chemical Company have alleged that workers at the Plaquemine chemical plant exposed thousands of workers at the site to asbestos materials, putting them at risk of developing mesothelioma, asbestos lung cancer, and other asbestos-related diseases.
