Alcoa’s Point Comfort refinery opened in 1948. From 1948 until 1980, the plant served as an aluminum smelter; from 1958 until the plant’s closure in 2019, the Point Comfort facility also served as a bauxite refinery, using raw bauxite ore to produce alumina.
