Asbestos Exposure at Goodyear’s Beaumont Plant
The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company began construction on its plant in Beaumont, Texas in 1960. Goodyear’s Beaumont plant was designed to produce two forms of synthetic rubber – Budene and Natsyn – for use in the company’s tires, as well as conveyor belts and other industrial applications. The plant is located just a few miles from Mobile’s Beaumont refinery, which supplied the raw materials used in the production of synthetic rubbers.
In 2000, Goodyear opened a second plant in Beaumont. In addition to synthetic rubber, the newer Goodyear plant in Beaumont also manufactures speciality polymers made from butadiene and styrene, which are designed to reduce rolling resistance, traction, and wear in the company’s tires.
Goodyear has faced more than 60,000 asbestos lawsuits filed by current and former workers who allege they were exposed to asbestos at the company’s factories. Although Goodyear stopped using asbestos in the 1980s, these lawsuits have alleged that Goodyear continued to install brake linings with asbestos into the next decade, putting workers at risk of developing mesothelioma cancer, asbestos lung cancer, or other asbestos diseases.
Asbestos lawsuits against Goodyear have been filed in Florida, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and other states. Workers at Goodyear’s Beaumont Texas synthetic rubber plant who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, lung cancer, or other health conditions may be eligible to file a lawsuit and receive compensation.
