Dock landing ships — which include both Landing Platform Docks (LPD) and Landing Ship Docks (LSD) — were designed to carry troops from ships to landing during military operations. In many cases, these vehicles were also capable of carrying helicopters or smaller landing vessels.
Originally developed during World War II, dock landings ships remained in service until the early 20th century. Because these vessels were constructed at a time when asbestos was still widely used in U.S. Navy ships, servicemen who served onboard these vessels may have been exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos, putting them at risk of developing mesothelioma cancer, asbestosis, or other asbestos-related diseases.
If you or a loved one served in the U.S. Navy onboard Landing Platform Docks, Landing Ship Docks, or other ships that may have been contaminated with asbestos, you may be eligible to receive a free health examination to find out if you suffer from mesothelioma, asbestosis, or other diseases caused by asbestos exposure.

Landing Platform Docks (LPD) With Asbestos
Landing platform/dock (LPD) ships, also known as amphibious transport docks, are a type of warship designed to transport and land troops during combat missions. In many cases, they also have the ability to land helicopters.
The Raleigh, Cleveland, Austin, and Trenton class LPDs were built by the U.S. Navy during the 1960s and 1970s, and saw service during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, the War in Iraq, the War in Afghanistan, and other U.S. military conflicts before they were eventually decommissioned during the early 21st century.
Some landing platform dock ships that may have been contaminated with asbestos include:

Landing Ship Docks (LSD) With Asbestos
Dock landing ships, also known as Landing Ship, Docks or LSD, were vessels with a well dock that allowed them to launch crafts or landing vehicles during combat.
Dock landing ships were originally developed during World War II, and saw action during the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and other 20th century military conflicts.
While some of these ships were decommissioned as early as the Vietnam War-era, others remained in service as late as the early 21st century.
