Asbestos Workers With Lung Cancer May Qualify for Compensation

Gavel and legal scales representing asbestos litigation and regulatory law

Mesothelioma cancer is the disease most frequently associated with exposure to asbestos. However, workers who were exposed to asbestos at their job may also be at risk of developing lung cancer.

If you or a loved one worked at a job that involved asbestos exposure before 1982 and have been diagnosed with lung cancer, your illness may be the result of asbestos exposure.

Workers – as well as their spouses and adult children – with asbestos lung cancer may be eligible to file a lawsuit, or receive compensation from one of the asbestos trust funds designed to compensate asbestos victims.

For more information about filing an asbestos trust claim or to start the process of taking legal action today, contact the asbestos lawyers at Hissey Mulderig & Friend. You can contact us by calling our offices toll-free at 1-855-500-3734, or by filling out our free asbestos claims submission form, located at the top of this page.

Asbestos Exposure and Lung Cancer

Asbestos lung cancer occurs when workers inhale or otherwise ingest asbestos fibers, which become trapped inside the lungs. Over time, the presence of asbestos in the lungs leads to the growth of cancerous cells, causing lung cancer.

Although asbestos exposure is most-widely associated with mesothelioma, asbestos lung cancer is the leading cause of death among victims of asbestos exposure.

Workers who develop lung cancer as a result of asbestos may also develop cancer in other parts of the body, as the asbestos cancer that started in their lung spreads to other areas of the body.

Some of the types of cancer that can develop as a result of asbestos lung cancer include lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes), brain cancer, bone cancer, liver cancer, and adrenocortical carcinoma (adrenal gland cancer).

Legal Options for Asbestos Lung Cancer Victims

Workers who were exposed to asbestos in the workplace and diagnosed with lung cancer may qualify to file a lawsuit against the companies responsible for their exposure.

Asbestos workers may also be eligible to file a claim with one of the asbestos bankruptcy trusts that have been established to compensate victims of asbestos.

In addition to workers who were exposed, the spouses and adult children of workers diagnosed with asbestos lung cancer may also be eligible to file a lawsuit or an asbestos trust claim.

Workers who have developed symptoms that they believe may be related to asbestos lung cancer or other asbestos-related diseases may also be eligible to receive a free asbestos health exam courtesy of our law firm at no out of pocket cost.
